Description
1 Railway Cottages forms an original Victorian railway workers cottage with lovely high ceilings that has been thoroughly modernised and extended to form the family house it is today. The property still enjoys character features, such as wooden doors, fireplaces and upgraded sash windows. The Oak framed covered porch opens into the original hallway, with stairs leading up to the first floor, door to the triple aspect sitting room with French doors leading out to the terrace to the rear, wooden flooring and a 16th Century sandstone fireplace reclaimed from a monastery in Lancashire. The kitchen has been upgraded with dark wood units, black marble work surfaces, inset sink, stone flooring and an Aga cooker with bespoke hand painted tiles behind. There is space for a table and chairs, free standing American style fridge/freezer and dishwasher. The plum coloured walls really set the room off excellently. There is a window and further set of French doors to the rear terrace.Opening off the kitchen is a lobby area with access to an under stairs cupboard housing a tumble dryer/appliance and the utilities. Twin doors open into a stone mosaic tiled shower room, comprising walk in shower, WC, basin and heated towel rail. The dining room is to the front of the house, and again enjoys a double aspect. There is a fireplace with marble surround and a built-in cupboard/shelving unit. The first floor landing has a wide, open feel, with two windows to the front, and access to all bedrooms. Bedroom one is a good size, double aspect, with stripped wood flooring. The second bedroom has a double aspect, built-in wardrobe and original fireplace which features the name 'Scotia' believed by the owners to be one of the train engines that frequented the Cuckoo Line. The third bedroom has a window to the rear and a built-in wardrobe. The bathroom is a thing of beauty. It has been furnished with top quality fittings from Catchpole & Rye with Amtico flooring. The bath has been hand cast in Kent from a mould taken from an antique French bath with the cast iron burnished on the outside. The toilet cistern has been personalised to reflect the house's heritage. The freestanding sink is Italian marble on a base reproduced from an original Georgian design. No expense has been spared on the interior, and as such a viewing is highly recommended.
