Situation and Amenities
Morcombelake is a popular village situated 4 miles west of Bridport and is the original home of the Moores Biscuit Bakery, makers of the famous Dorset Knob, established in1850. The village has a church dating from 1841, a post office/village shop, the friendly Felicity's farm shop/ cafe and a village hall that plays host to many local events. The village is in an admirable location nestling amidst the rolling West Dorset Hills, a short distance away from the famous and beautiful Jurassic Coast which is a World Heritage Site. The whole area is much loved by avid ramblers and equine enthusiasts offering an unrivalled variety of coastal and inland bridleways and footpaths. Bridport, just a short drive away, also has good access to the coast at the pretty harbour of West Bay with an assortment of pubs and restaurants including the artisan Sladers Yard and the renowned Riverside Restaurant, not to mention the eighteen hole Bridport and West Dorset Golf Club that sits on the edge of the cliffs. This vibrant market town has twice weekly markets as well as regular farmers' and vintage markets and offers a surprising range of independent quirky and artisan local shops. The town has a thriving music, arts and literary community, hosting the Bridport Literary Festival and offering a wealth of events to add to the diary. Bridport's mainstream amenities include restaurants and hotels, a cinema and leisure centre, supermarkets, a museum, a health centre and a number of excellent primary schools and secondary schooling. State and Independent schooling can be found nearby in many of the local villages and at North Perrott, Beaminster, Charmouth or Lyme Regis. Axminster is nine miles to the east providing a mainline railway service to London Waterloo and further west.
