This delightful detached Grade II listed family home located on High Street was once a village inn known as The Old English Gentleman and the original part that now forms the entrance hall, dining room, kitchen and bedrooms above can be traced back to the 17th Century. The building was enlarged to the side in Victorian times to provide what is now the sitting room with the bedroom and bathroom above. At some point a detached barn was incorporated into the building and more recently a guest suite has been added.

The accommodation now extends to over 2200 sq.ft and there is a superb degree of flexibility in its arrangement. The splendid entrance hall has an inglenook fireplace, magnificent timbers and a quarry tiled floor; the dining room is similarly timbered. The Victorian sitting room has a wood burning stove and leads into a useful office. The kitchen / breakfast room is attractively refitted with quality cabinetry and granite working surfaces and has an oil fired AGA and plenty of room for a good size table. A utility room is accessed from the rear lobby. The main upstairs has two bedrooms, a shower room and a generous landing that the current owner uses as an additonal sitting room and occasional bedroom.

At the back of the house, the old barn is currently used as the main bedroom with glazed door out to the garden, a neighbouring bathroom and stairs leading up to a dressing room and study. This part of the house was previously used as a playroom and the two rooms above as children's bedrooms. Behind the barn and accessed from the outside, is an excellent separate guest suite with bedroom and en suite shower room.

The plot extends to about 1.2 acres. There is a neatly shrubbed and hedged front garden and a driveway passes beside the house, leading to the rear courtyard and detached double cart lodge. The main gardens extend back from here and are largely lawned with various trees and shrub beds. The rear portion of the land is presently meadow with mown pathways; there is a recently erected summer house to the corner of the garden. The whole backs on to gently rising farmland.

Orwell is a charming village set in the midst of glorious open countryside midway between Cambridge and Royston. Conveniently situated just off the A603 approximately 9 miles south west of Cambridge, it is a village of quality properties and enjoys a local shop, post office, pub, village church and well renowned Church of England primary school. There is a mainline railway station within a few minutes motoring distance at nearby Shepreth or Royston, which both provide fast access to London Kings Cross.
