" The Owners story:

When we were looking for a property originally we‘d overlooked this one. We‘d looked at the agents advert, but their description wasn‘t great and somehow we‘d skipped past it.

After viewing around 12 properties, it came back to our attention however this time we decided to view it.

We loved the size of the rooms, the overall space, the fact it had a large garden with an amazing outbuilding and we started started to think about all the possibilities to remodel it into something that could be our dream home.

We feel like it‘s so much more than a flat because It really feels like a house, despite the lack of ground floor. The scale of the place, split over 3 levels and including the garden really feels more substantial than any other apartment we‘ve known. You also get good privacy within the flat, given the two floors between the en-suite dormer bedroom and the 3rd bedroom on the first floor. We‘ve styled the property sympathetically, as for us that‘s what a period property is about.

We didn‘t know a great deal about Nunhead at the time we moved in, but there was lots of green space for dog walks and running such as Nunhead Cemetery and Peckham Rye and their seemed to be great community vibe in Nunhead and the vibrant centre of Peckham. It felt well connected by Queens Road, Peckham Rye and Nunhead stations. It was one of the things we immediately loved about the area.

Since we‘ve lived here we‘ve seen even more bars and restaurants on Queen‘s Road and in Peckham central. Peckham Rye Park has had a new cafe and playground. Nunhead Green has continued to improve with fantastic coffee shops and deli‘s. It definitely feels like a area that will get better and better over time.

We were often visiting The Telegraph, The Old Nun‘s Head, Skeehans or popping to the likes of Blackbird Bakery, Good Cup or The Hill Station for lunch and great coffee. Brilliant local shops include Ayre‘s Bakery and the two "BYO" packaging-free refill shops, and even Nunhead‘s Nisa Local has great veg and organic ranges!

For drinks there are brilliant choices including El Vermut, Beer Revolution, The Beer Shop, or for an evening meal there is Mamma Dough (pizza), KuduKudu Grill or Peckham Bazaar. Central Peckham is full of so many options to choose from and personal favourites are Zapoi (cocktails) and Taco Queen.

Our property is located conveniently for our work in the City and West End: Queen‘s Road Peckham has trains into London Bridge where we can either change onto the Northern line or walk to the City, or hop over the platform for a mainline train to Charing Cross.

In summer months we would cook outdoors often, whether just us two or with friends, with the festoon lighting on. Drinks and food at the table, or around the counter by the summer house. If a little chillier we would sometimes move into the summer house. We often hosted regular pizza nights as well with either friends or with our neighbours from 14a, and other outdoor-cooked meals using the Plancha grill with everyone sitting around the railway-sleeper table. We‘ve had a couple of fabulous birthday parties out there too as it‘s big enough for a crowd.

Our neighbours in 14a are very friendly and easy-going. We‘ve both allowed each other to do upgrading work on our properties and have hung out together a lot, particularly in the summer in the gardens. Other neighbours in the street also form a good community - a good example was during the first lockdown when we used to have music nights across all the gardens, with people even joining from the roof of the Pioneer centre at the end of the garden!

Our neighbours in fact, have looked after the dog, and we‘ve feed downstairs‘ cat while they were away, and of course we receive deliveries for each other and help with keys etc for visitors etc. It‘s been great having such lovely neighbours.
