" This stunning Grade II listed Arts and Crafts home, offers something totally unique and is one of a kind. Just from the outside it is clear that this is something different, the mixture of stone and timber and elegant chimneys, all set the scene perfectly. The house itself oozes charm and character inside and out. The front is landscaped with a mixture of mature shrubs, trees and lawns, as well as a path to the garage which even has a cellar for those that are looking for extra storage. The front door is hand crafted and leads you into the entrance hall, which sets the theme of opulence with wooden carvings and bespoke ironmongery. There is ample space for shoes, coats and boots with a storage cupboard for anything else that needs to be put away. This leads to the imposing drawing room which is double aspect with doors to the garden but the main features are the inglenook fireplace with seats and window, as well as the beams, window seats, elaborate and ornamental hinges and pattern of studs on the doors and oak floorboards. This room also provides access to the impressive encased staircase. The dining room which overlooks the gardens and also enjoys a further fireplace, is perfect for dinner parties and informal dining on special occasions. If cooking up a storm and impressing people with your culinary skills is something you enjoy, then the kitchen will suit your needs. There is a range of low level and wall mounted units and a large pantry for storing all of those magic ingredients. The current vendors have opened the kitchen up into a breakfast and family room for more informal dining, with views to the garden and and a door to the patio and side of the house. The accommodation does not stop there, there is also a further sitting room with a stone fireplace with Duck & Nest grate, which the current owners use as a music room. From here, there is a study, complete with feature window seat in the wide bay window. This overlooks the garden and is a great place to work. Completing the accommodation is the useful downstairs shower room plus a further bathroom. To the first floor, the encased staircase is simply stunning, with the wood carvings and window to the rear, creating something really special. There are six bedrooms, with the master enjoying a bright aspect with ample space for furnishings and wardrobe. The theme of light and charm continues into the further bedrooms, which are currently utilised as childrens' rooms, guest bedrooms and a playroom. The guest room and playroom were originally servant quarters and have a separate staircase that leads down to the kitchen. Completing the accommodation is the family bathroom which has a luxurious feel, with double ended bath and shower attachment, perfect after a long day or simply bathing in the sumptuous surroundings.Externally, the property is set in grounds of approaching 1 acre with lovely views to the surrounding area. The rear garden is tiered and of a southerly aspect, with formal garden and patio on the first level, which makes al fresco dining a must in the summer months. A path leads to the rest of the garden with a further patio area, gardens and more space to enjoy for the children should one wish. The house dates back to 1898 and is designed by MH Baillie-Scott (the renowned Arts and Crafts architect). The detailing and variety of vernacular materials is of great interest, as well as his unconventional approach to the interior of the building. The Department of National Heritage Listing Schedule for Little Shaw gives some further information. It states that some building materials are thought to have come from Newgate Prison and the former Old Bailey as well as noting that the interior has been remarkably unaltered. It particularly notes the stone fireplace with Duck Nest grate in the parlour (currently used a music room), the inglenook with seats and window in the original Hall (currently used as the Drawing Room), the window seats, the elaborate and ornamental hinges and pattern of studs on the doors, the main staircase and the oak floorboards.Commentators credit Baillie-Scott with making dwellings into perfect little works of art with endless attention to the smallest detail, even designing intricate door and window latches and fireplace surrounds. He designed his houses from the inside out, with the space flowing from room to room in an unconventional manner. Architectural commentators on his designs have written that each room is an individual creation.Viewing is essential to appreciate the heritage and elegance that the property has to offer. "
