Why you ll love it
Port Hall is undoubtably one of the most desirable areas to live in the city. Quiet streets of Victorian terraces sit peacefully tucked away yet are perfectly located to access the city and all its delights on foot. Excellent schools also attract families here as they are Ofsted Outstanding and transport links are excellent with commuter stations nearby, and bus routes or easy road access take you in and out of the city.
Sitting mid terrace with a fresh white fa ade adorned with the quintessential architectural features of the period, this Victorian house is attractive on approach. Set back from the road behind a paved front garden and steps leading to the neighbouring lower ground floor flat, the upper maisonette has its own street entrance. Stepping inside, you are greeted into a long hallway with high ceilings decorated with Victorian corbels and the original mahogany banister wending up to the first floor bedrooms. The decoration is immaculate with fresh white walls, showing clearly it has been a beautifully maintained home.
Once two rooms, since opened to create one large, dual aspect space, the open plan living room and kitchen span the ground floor. To the front of the house, the sitting room area feels homely with space for sofas and chairs to cosy up on in the evening by the decorative fireplace. Bespoke shelving and cabinetry offer plenty of storage and bookshelf space, and this side of the room is carpeted for extra warmth and comfort.
To the rear of the room, the kitchen is the ideal size for families or professionals who enjoy cooking and hosting. There is a wealth of storage alongside an integrated fridge, oven and gas hob, leaving space for a freestanding washing machine and dishwasher. Elevated on the hill slightly, you gain the first of the far reaching views from here which are a pleasure to look at when washing up.
Completing the ground floor is a generous bathroom with a gleaming white bath suite and tiling. The shower sits over the bath and a tall, heated rail is wall mounted for towels. You can then add your own pop of colour with accessories, plants and toiletries.
Carpeted and decorated in restful tones, both double bedrooms sit on the first floor; one looking out over the peaceful street, while the other looks out over the city to the east. The views really come into their own up here, now taking in the patchwork hills if the South Downs National Park below the vast skyscape, offering spectacular scenes on Bonfire Night.
Agent s thoughts
This is the perfect house for couples or families, professionals and commuters looking to live somewhere peaceful yet central. It is deceptively spacious and beautifully maintained, and the location is also incredible with Seven Dials, the beach and the South Downs all equally accessible.
Owner s thoughts
These Victorian homes lend themselves perfectly to conversion as they offer so much space and light. This doesn t feel like an apartment as it has its own street entrance, and we share the building with just one other person. It s a comfortable home to live in, whether entertaining or relaxing after a long week and we love being able to pop out to eat or for a drink at Seven Dials where there is so much to choose from alongside every amenity you could wish for. We are sad to see it go.
